Summary of Duties
This position is primarily responsible for the overall financial and accounting practices of the organization.
Reporting Accountabilities
Reporting to the Director of KCWS and the KCWS Board of Directors, the Accountant is required to have personal time sheets signed by the supervisor and ensure that all absences are excused as per the KCWS Policy Manual.
Responsbilities
Prepare and manage the Annual Operating Budget as well as budget forecasting for the Society.
Prepare monthly financial statements (such as balance sheet and profit/loss statements). Present this information to KCWS Board and KCWS Director on a regular basis and answer questions as needed.
Track the Society’s expenditures on a daily basis against the budget, maintain control of the Society’s bank balance, make internal transfers, journal entries as needed.
Monitor the financial efficiency of the Society, suggest new measures, policies to enhance/improve this efficiency.
Responsible for ensuring that internal control systems are in place and functioning including segregation of duties etc.
Responsible for the preparation of audit schedules and related items, especially during the Society’s annual independent audit in May/June.
Must be willing to assist in the development of a workplan for the position in consultation with and the approval of the Director, KCWS.
Attend all staff meetings and/or related meetings as identified by the Director, KCWS.
Willingness to undergo training as required.
Requirements
Education and experience
CPA designation with a minimum of 5 (five) years of related experience within a First Nations organization.
Must have at least 2 (two) years experience in dealing with banking institutions, INAC, CRA and other entities involved in the daily operation of a Non-Profit Society in the Province of Alberta.
Must have working knowledge of MS Office programs such as MS Excel, Word, etc. Familiarity in working with QuickBooks is an asset.
Familiarity with the social issues and factors affecting the local community and an ability to speak Cree are also definite assets.

Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license, ability to travel

Complete an employee wellness plan and staff training plan

Kasohkwew Child Wellness Society (KCWS) is a child welfare organization located at Samson Cree Nation (Maskwacis) in Treaty Six territory. KCWS operates within a unique method of prevention and intervention that incorporates Nehiyaw culture, values and traditions into every facet of our work.
