Our work supports families by keeping families together.

We value connection, kinship, patience, compassion, love and care.

Our programs include prevention, intervention, (re)connection, care, and cultural support. We work with kohkoms, mosoms, and community members to support the children, youth and families in our care to ensure Nehiyaw ways of knowing and being are incorporated into all aspects of our work.

Become a Caregiver

If you are interested in becoming a temporary family and willing to provide quality care to a child in need, you can work towards becoming a Caregiver.

There is a screening process that is required by all families interested in becoming foster parents.

KCWS consists of these program areas:

The Placement Resources Unit helps with all factors related to foster and kinship homes including recruitment, licensing, training, matching, and support for Caregivers.

The Band Designate facilitates cultural connections for children, youth, and their families. Establishing and nurturing these relationships is crucial for the well-being of Indigenous children and youth, helping them stay connected to their heritage and community.

In our Group Care homes, we have cultivated a culture-based program that goes beyond basic care. It is a holistic journey rooted in language, traditional practices, customs, and meaningful interactions for Indigenous children and youth to foster a deep connection with their identity and community.

"I just wanted to tell you how amazing of a worker you must be. You mean a lot to the girls, it was very apparent in our conversations. The fact that they trust you and you are so available to them is very admirable. We need more workers like you in this world. I am also a caseworker/assessor so I know  how important that relationship is."
